Lexington, KY – Business, government and community leaders in central Kentucky are gearing up for the Regional Public Policy Group’s annual Washington, D.C. Fly-In on July 23 and 24. During the trip, 55 attendees will meet with members of Kentucky’s Congressional Delegation and their legislative staffs to learn about and discuss critical issues facing the nation and Kentucky.
The trip also provides the opportunity for regional leaders to advocate for key issues important to them, their communities and businesses.
Additionally, attendees will meet with representatives of the U.S. EPA about the agency’s new regulations on carbon emissions, and the potential impact on Kentucky’s economy and electricity rates. They will also receive an in-depth briefing from a panel of experts about reform legislation to workforce investment laws and how the changes will improve workforce training in central Kentucky, a release from Commerce Lexington states.
Trip participants represent various sectors of the local economy such as government, banking, health care, non-profit, education, manufacturing, energy and professional services.
Federal legislative priorities for the group this year include protecting Kentucky’s low electricity rates and energy economy, improving the workforce development system, ensuring critical investments in transportation infrastructure, higher education, research and innovation and the region’s military economy.
The Central Kentucky Regional Public Policy Group (CKRPPG), of which Commerce Lexington Inc. is a member, is responsible for crafting the federal policy statements each year. The CKRPPG meets monthly to discuss issues important to the region, and membership includes 45 business, community and government leaders within the eight-county region of Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, Scott and Woodford counties.
