I hope that summer finds you well, and that as the heat mounts, you slow down as needed in order to be safe.
New District Details
The recent redistricting for our 5th Council District has brought three new precincts. Starting with next month’s article, I’ll begin detailing one per month so we can all get to know our new neighbors.
For now, here’s a bit from our new Warfield Place precinct. The end of Industry Road at New Circle has long had the remains of a once active rail spur almost under it. I say “almost” because it’s been a double dip in the pavement for many years. Sam Williams runs our Division of Streets & Roads and I mentioned the condition to him and he prevailed on the folks at the R. J. Corman Railroad Company to partner with us by removing the rails so that we could repave. What a nice upgrade. In talking with the gent from Corman, I now know there are more plans for similar work on both Magoffin Street (on the district’s border) and Maple Avenue (just outside the new boundary). More on Warfield place next month.
Colt Trolley
In case I haven’t extolled the expanded Lextran Colt Trolley route to you yet, here goes. The free trolley service that LexTran has been providing has been expanded to include Chevy Chase on our end and West 6th Street on the other end. So, if you want to go to lunch any weekday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., leave a few minutes for free transit and try the trolley’s Blue Route from either destination point. Also, the Colt runs on Thurs. – Sat. nights from 6: p.m. to 2 a.m. That’s a great evening addition and the later the better. For a map with a list of stops, visit www.lextran.com/route-map/ colt-trolley. Please enjoy.
Triangle of Opportunity
The Richmond Road/Lakeshore/ Fontaine area is and will be the subject of improvement efforts stimulated in part by the excellent redevelopment that has transformed Sonnet Cove into the beautiful Lakewood Park on Lakeshore beyond Henry Clay High School. It’s easy to see the new restaurant that Phil Greer and his son are perfecting in Idle Hour. What a grand addition it will be and an enhancement to the corridor. The influx of $13 million that Southland Christian Church is bringing to the old Lexington Mall property can’t be realized just yet, but each day brings positive change there.
Code Enforcement recently did a “mini-sweep” in the Dinsmore Drive area, resulting in the removal of 15 abandoned vehicles and other citations being written. One of the complexes along Richmond Road is in foreclosure, and when the new owner steps in, our folks will be there to encourage needed repairs in hopes of the best outcome.
Finally, after the summer an enhancement project lead by Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works, along with Keep Lexington Beautiful, will cut back all of the foliage and years of undergrowth along Richmond Road from Shriners Lane to the reservoir. This project will have a volunteer component, and I encourage you to participate. As the details work out I’ll add them in here, and as well as in our weekly e-newsletter from the Council office, which you can sign up to receive by contacting me through any method below.
Stay as cool as you can, watering pets, plants and people.
