Ashland will be closed Oct. 28-31 for the installation of a geothermal system.
Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, will soon be much more energy efficient when the drilling for their geothermal wells begins next week.
Arronco Comfort Air will be installing a geothermal heating and air-conditioning system in the 156-year-old structure.
The estate will be closed from Oct. 28 - 31 while working is being done; the estate will resume its normal tour schedules and activities on Nov. 1.
Ashland directors opted to go with geothermal over other methods of heating and cooling because the system will be cheaper over a period of time, will be more environmentally friendly, and will be better for the preservation of inside artifacts.
The project will cost around $80,000, given the size of the mansion and the added precautions needed to ensure none of the historic integrity will be compromised, and the organization is accepting donations to help cover the expenses.
(Editor’s note: Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate, is one of over 100 regional nonprofits included in this year’s Good Giving Guide, an online fundraising partnership between Smiley Pete Publishing and Blue Grass Community Foundation; the campaign goes live on Nov. 1, and makes donating to organizations, like Ashland, extremely easy.)
