With colder temperatures and wind chills expected to range from 20-30 degrees below zero overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning, the city has canceled Tuesday’s residential waste and recycling collection.
Residents with Tuesday city waste and recycling collection are asked to put their Herbie and Rosie containers out Tuesday night for collection, beginning Wednesday. Monday’s collection was also canceled because of the inclement weather. Residents with Monday waste collection are also asked to put their containers out on Tuesday night.
Residential collection will begin Wednesday and all missed routes will be worked by crews until completed later in the week. Residents are asked to leave containers on the curb until they have been serviced this week. There also will be no yard waste collection this week from residents who have city services.
Downtown collections and commercial dumpster service will resume Tuesday, but customers are asked to be patient because the pace of pickups will be reduced to limit Division of Waste Management workers’ exposure to the cold. The city’s Materials Recovery Facility, on Manchester Street, will be closed again on Tuesday.
