Area schools, businesses and neighborhood groups are receiving over $1 million to fund projects to improve water quality in Lexington.
The Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grant Program, funded by the Water Quality Management Fee, is in its second year of supporting projects. The Water Quality Fees Board selected 22 grant recipients to receive funding for infrastructure and educational projects for fiscal year 2012.
Area organizations include: Clays Mill Elementary ($320,400 to construct stormwater improvements that include stream restoration, wetland construction and a rain garden, among other features), Beaumont Middle School ($2,500 for a rain garden), Jessie Clark Middle School ($2,500 for a rain garden) and Hartland Homeowners Association, Inc ($50,000 to design and construct capital improvements to an existing stormwater basin; $37,230 for stream stabilization).
