Nashville bluegrass stars The Roys will perform at Willie's Locally Known on Friday.

Snarky Puppy/ Barry Mando Project Cosmic Charlie’s, 388 Woodland Ave. 7 p.m., 18+, $10. Snarky Puppy is a Texas-based highly technical instrumental fusion band led by Michael League and featuring a rotating collective of nearly 30 members.
Ian Cooke Natasha's 112 Esplanade Alley, $5, 9 p.m. From the venue website: "Ian Cooke has appeared in SPIN magazine, Finished #1 in the Denver Post Music Poll in 2009, and has been voted Best Avant-Pop for 3 years by Westword Magazine. Blind Corn Liquor Pickers, Warren Byrom, Devine Carama and more Al's Bar 601 North Limestone Street, 9 p.m. Hosted by Eric Sutherland and featuring an all-star line-up of Kentucky writers and musicians (also including Erik Reece, Ed McClanahan, Maurice Manning and many more), this event was organized to show solidarity with the activists who were arrested in late July during a peaceful protest at the Hobet Mine in West Virginia.

Jude Lally & Benanthrope Natasha's, 112 Esplanade Alley, 8 p.m., $5. From the venue website: "Jude Lally is a disabled 29 year old published poet from Lexington, KY. His emotive writings read like a slide show of beautifully visceral merciless snap shots taken by an honestly actualized soul without frills. While praising pleasures, and condemning antagonists both human and not Jude utilizes the art of poetry to take the reader on a very real ride of joy, fear, anger, love, loss, humanity, sadness and cynicism. On this night of August the 19th at Natasha's Bar & Bistro he will be performing over an hour of his works with the accompaniment of a five piece band playing arrangements specifically written as a backdrop for the live performance of his poems.'"
The Murder Junkies w/ The Loaded Nuns Cosmic Charlie’s, 388 Woodland Ave. 10 p.m., 18+, $10. The Murder Junkies are best known for being the final backing band for infamous punk rock performer GG Allin before his death in 1993.
Bluegrass Music & Barbecue Milward Funeral Directors, 391 Southland Dr., noon - 3 p.m. Bluegrass music will be performed by Second Time Around Band, who play traditional bluegrass and bluegrass gospel with a little Americana and Country thrown into the mix. Free event with lunch included.
