Four years ago, Joshua Koshy, now a Junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, and Jonathan Koshy, now a sophomore in college, were discussing with their family the poor amount of attention that was being given to service members who have given the ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty. Their father suggested they should do something about it.
After some research, they came across a group of service members that started a national, non-political remembrance initiative, Run for the Fallen, with the goal of running a mile for every service member who had died during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Jonathan and Joshua modeled a local run/walk, Run for the Fallen: Lexington, after this event. Jonathan coordinated the 2008 event and Joshua has been the coordinator since 2009.
The fifth annual run/walk will be Saturday, Aug. 25th, at 8:30 a.m. at the MoonDance at Midnight Pass in the Beaumont Centre (1152 Monarch St.). Participants will be running/walking one mile in honor of any of our fallen service members that gave the ultimate sacrifice in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The event is non-political. A list of those service members we will be running in honor of will be available at the event or online at FallenWarriorKY.com. Those who would like to run/walk for fallen members from other past conflicts are welcome as well. Please direct any questions to rftfky@yahoo.com
