The reconfigured Lexington interchange at Harrodsburg Road and New Circle Road, the Double Crossover Diamond, has been nominated as one of the nation’s top 10 transportation projects by an industry and business group.
The project, designed by local engineering firm Stantec of Lexington, was selected as one of the top transportation solutions across the country to vie for one of two America’s Transportation Awards, sponsored by the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA, and the US Chamber of Commerce.
The Harrodsburg Road (US 68) interchange at New Circle Road (KY 4) is the first Double Crossover Diamond (DCD) in the state, and was the sixth in the nation when it opened to traffic in August 2011. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has credited it with improving safety, saving costs, and easing congestion at the highly travelled interchange.

In addition to a People’s Choice Award, for which voting opened to the public on September 10, a Grand Prize Award winner will be selected by a panel of transportation experts. Online voting takes place until October 19th and award winners will be presented on November 18 at AASHTO’s annual meeting.
