Shillito Park pool has a new feature mounting with popularity among the young swimmers.
Lexington’s Division of Parks and Recreation recently installed a new climbing wall alongside the pool.
The fiberglass wall with stainless steel frame has notches and holds for climbers to use to ascend the wall. When they get to the top, the wall slopes over the pool and they can jump, feet first, into the water.
“It is an athletic aquatic feature that invites patrons of all ages to get physical while having fun,” said Scott Sheets, aquatics manager.
The wall is made by Aqua-Climb and has been marketed since 2004 in the United States and Canada. The model at Shillito is called Ascent and is 13.5 feet high and 3.5 feet wide. It is blue in color.
The cost of the climbing wall is $9,999. It was installed on June 28.
