The makers of Kentucky Ale are taking advantage of their recent expansion (read about it here) to launch a series of rotating seasonal beers, beginning with a pumpkin ale set to hit taps and stores over the next few weeks.
Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale, which hits beer taps this week, is a blend of two popular styles, the barrel aging known to fans of the company’s Bourbon Barrel Ale and the popular fall pumpkin beer, a staple of craft brewers.
“Because barrel aging is our brewery’s specialty, we wanted to get creative with the idea of a seasonal program by focusing on aging all the brews in bourbon barrels, starting with the Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale,” Ken Lee, master brewer for Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co, said in a release.
The company plans to follow up the new fall seasonal with a winter or spring barrel-aged seasonal, depending on production schedules. In the past, the brewery’s limited edition releases have been confined to those from the annual Kentucky Ale Brew-Off homebrew competition, which have only been sold on draft.
Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale will be available in limited quantities in areas of Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, Georgia, New York, Florida, Wisconsin and Illinois. It will be sold on draft and in 4-packs of bottles for the suggested retail price of $14.99.
The seasonal beer joins Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, Kentucky Ale and the recently re-branded Kentucky Kölsch to the lineup of beers produced by Alltech which also has a distilling arm that produces Town Branch Bourbon and Pearse Lyons Reserve, a malt whiskey.
