GoodGiving Guide
After less than one week, the third annual GoodGiving Guide Challenge has raised over 25 percent of its $1 million goal.
The campaign is an online fundraising partnership between Smiley Pete Publishing and Blue Grass Community Foundation.
As of Thursday morning, nearly 1,600 donors had contributed more than $260,000 toward the online fundraising campaign, with Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence being the top recipient with over $19,000 from over 80 donors. However, MIssion Lexington’s Free Medical and Dental Clinics is running at a close second, with over $17,500 raised from over 90 donors.
The first week of campaigning also saw 10 nonprofits split the $75,000 Quick Start Endowment Challenge, presented by Blue Grass Community Foundation and the Knight Foundation, which awarded the first 10 nonprofits to raise $7,500 through 50 contributions of $25 or more win a $7,500 endowment grant. The winners were: Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, Richmond Area Arts Council, Lexington Fairness, Friends of the Kentucky Theatre, Mission Lexington Free Medical and Dental Clinics, Living Arts and Science Center, Shoulder to Shoulder Global, Lexington Philharmonic, Hospice of the Bluegrass, and Faith Feeds.
West Sixth Brewing hosted a launch party challenge on the opening day of the campaign at their brewery. With the most supporters present at the event, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, Surgery on Sunday and Newtown’s Attic each received $666.66 from West Sixth.
Other “challenges” are already taking place or are scheduled to begin soon. The “Most Unique Donors Challenge” runs through 11:59 p.m. Nov. 10, and will award $1,000 to a small, medium and large nonprofit with the most unique donors making $25 or more between Nov. 4 and Nov. 10.
On Nov. 7, Coba Cocina (2041 Richmond Rd.) will donate 25 percent of sales in the upstairs “cantina” from 4 - 10:30 p.m. to the Grand Finale Match Pool. On Nov. 14, Good Foods Market & Cafe will do the same all day long.
