Blood donors needed this week
Recent frigid winter weather has caused blood drives to be cancelled and low donor turn outs, which are negatively impacting the blood supply for central and eastern Kentucky, according to Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) officials.
“In the past two days we’ve had 54 generous Kentuckians donate blood, but we transfused nearly 400 units. We need blood donors to come in now to replenish the blood supply so we’ll be prepared for the next winter storm or emergency,” said Bill Reed, KBC President and CEO.
KBC crews spent much of the day yesterday assuring that the KBC bloodmobiles are able to run in the freezing temperatures.
This week anyone who registers to donate blood will be eligible to win a $200 VISA gift card.
