From Nov. 17-Dec. 19, Lexingtonians will have a unique opportunity to recompense their parking meter violations with Lexington Parking Authority’s inaugural “Food for Fines” program. During that window, customers with parking meter citations can bring 10 cans of food to the LEXPARK office, located at 122 N. Broadway, to pay for any outstanding meter citation. Customers with multiple meter citations may bring in 10 cans for each one, including those that are past due.
“It's a great way for citizens to clear their record and help those in need at the same time,” said Gary Means, executive director of LEXPARK. “We are very excited about this opportunity to give back to our community.”
All canned food donations received by LEXPARK will be donated to God's Pantry Food Bank. Canned vegetables which are at least 14-15 ounces large are suggested.
“These canned food items will help stock the shelves of our four Lexington Pantry locations which help feed hungry Fayette County families year round who may not know where their next meal is coming from,” said Marian Guinn, CEO of God’s Pantry Food Bank.
“One expired parking meter ticket could mean two meals for hungry Fayette County families.”
Expired, damaged or opened food donations will not be accepted; LEXPARK has asked that customers be considerate when selecting donated items. For more information on the program, call (859) 233 -PARK (7275).
