Lexington, KY - The Office of Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt has mailed 2011-2012 Fayette County property tax bills on Monday, September 26, 2011.
The 114,000 bills with a total face value of $263.8 million represent a 3 percent increase from last year.
The Office of Sheriff collected 98.7 percent of property taxes billed for the 2010-2011 tax collection period. These tax collections help fund the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Fayette County Board of Education, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the Fayette County Extension District, the Fayette County Soil & Water Conservation District, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, and Lextran.
Property tax payments must be made or postmarked by November 1, 2011, for a 2 percent discount or by December 31, 2011, to avoid a penalty.
Taxpayers may pay in person at the Office of Sheriff, located in Suite 236 in the Fayette District Court building, by mail, or online at http:/www.fayettesheriff.com/. Taxpayers may also pay in person at any Lexington Republic Bank location with their payment coupon.
Taxpayers not receiving their bills during the last week of September should contact the Office of Sheriff Property Tax Division at 859-252-1771 to request a duplicate copy.
