Lexington, KY - Do you know what LexArts is? If you vaguely remember hearing or seeing it somewhere, but can't quite put your finger on it, you're not alone. Even though many of LexArts' partners or supported organizations are front and center on the community's list of what to do and see, the organization that helps fund these organizations is the veritable "guy behind the guy."
Functioning as both Lexington's arts council and arts fund, LexArts covers cultural development, advocacy and fundraising to support the arts in Lexington. Included within those parameters are groups as well known as the Lexington Philharmonic and the Lexington Art League and the perhaps lesser-known public art projects, such as the recent Lexington Outdoor Mural Project or Balancing Act, a walking tour of outdoor sculpture. LexArts also organizes the popular Downtown Gallery Hops in Lexington.
"The great thing about LexArts is that if you want to volunteer, we can get you involved with LexArts and we can also help direct you to some of our partner organizations," said Ginny Eager, the director of development for LexArts. She's recently culled members of the community to make up LexArts' annual campaign cabinet and is looking forward to the kickoff of fundraising.
"This is a group for endless ages," said Myndall Coffman, a member of the campaign cabinet and the workplace giving committee. "From the tiniest to the oldest, there is something for them all. People don't realize what LexArts does and supports. In tough times, the last thing we want to give up is what we've worked so hard for. If we don't have the arts, we don't have creative minds."
