Sweet Blessings creates specialty birthday cakes for children ages 5 to 14 who are facing a life-threatening illness or poverty. In its eight-month existence, Sweet Blessings has baked and decorated 80
cakes for children in Central Kentucky. The cakes are hand-crafted in a special shape or design made especially for each child.
In September, Ashley Gann, founder and executive director of Sweet Blessings, was approached by
NBC producer Colleen Dudgeon about the national segment. Dudgeon is a native of Frankfort, Ky. Frankfort's newspaper, the State Journal, had published a story about Sweet Blessings in late August, which was picked up by the Associated Press. Dudgeon read the AP article and contacted Gann via email.
