Lexington, KY - The Child Care Council of Kentucky has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to teach area preschoolers lessons in spending, sharing and saving and equip parents to reinforce the lessons at home.
The PNC "Grow Up Great For Me, For You, For Later" financial education program focuses on development training sessions for teachers, providing preschool age-appropriate financial literacy materials for classroom and home instruction, foundations of money management classes for parents and will be provided in the 13 central and southeastern Kentucky counties which are served by PNC.
"Through this grant from PNC, we can reach children throughout central, southern and eastern Kentucky at an early age and help establish smart habits that will last a lifetime," Bradley Stevenson, executive director of Child Care Council of Kentucky, said in a joint release from the Council and PNC.
The programming will be available in Bell, Boyle, Clark, Clay, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Knox, Laurel, Madison, Scott, Woodford and Whitely counties.
"Extensive research shows the return on investments in high-quality early education is significant and long lasting - positively impacting our children, society and economy," said Harry Richart, PNC Bank regional president for Central Kentucky. "Through this financial education initiative with the Child Care Council of Kentucky, we can help young children in our region better understand that everything has value and show parents how to turn everyday moments into financial learning experiences for their kids."
PNC provided the funding in support of Grow Up GreatÆ, its bilingual program in early childhood education. The PNC Foundation receives its principal funding from The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE:PNC), which to date has invested a total $237,600 for early childhood education programs in central Kentucky.
