Lexington, KY - What does it take in the art business to succeed? For local artist Guy Kemper it's all in the approach; his includes the willingness to take chances, risk failure and know exactly what the end product should deliver. Business Lexington featured Kemper as an exemplary local artist realizing global success in a two-page spread titled Innovative Approach in August of 2006 (read the article).
At that same time, just after Kemper won a large commission for the Seattle, Washington's Light Rail Station, internationally acclaimed cinematographer Marc Pingry decided to document what Kemper was doing. For nearly four years he followed Kemper from concept drawings done at his home in Woodford County to the final installation. What Pingry learned he now shares in a 27-minute documentary titled Painting with Glass airing on KET at the end of this month.
In the accompanying podcast, Huskisson reconnects with Kemper to discuss his Refractive Expressionist painting on glass, the trial and error that perfected the technique, and Kemper's insights as to why it now delivers every time.
