Slattery has previously worked at KADN-TV in Lafayette, La., in addition to serving as a producer at WCIV-TV in Charleston, S.C.
Jim Thiel, co-founder of Lexington-based THIEL Audio Products, passed away in September after a long battle with cancer. In addition to being a well-respected member of the Lexington business community, Thiel was widely recognized and admired throughout the audio industry as a leader in the field of loudspeaker design.

God's Pantry Food Bank recognized the Kroger Company at its annual donor and volunteer appreciation reception in September for the implementation of its store donation program, which has provided more than 60,000 pounds of product donations in its first six months. God's Pantry also honored State Representative Tom McKee and Lowell Atchley, a member of the Legislative Research Commission, for their work in organizing the Farms to Food Banks program, which seeks to
put surplus agricultural commodities into the hands of hungry families, benefitting both the local farmer and the needy citizen. Other local organizations and businesses recognized included M&M Sanitation, The Klausing Group, Woodward, Hobson & Fulton, Pat Byrne Printing, Quest Community Church and the Junior League of Lexington.
