What’s the best book you have read lately?
Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, by Doris Kearns Goodwin. While it’s an interesting historical look at Abraham Lincoln’s career, it’s really a tremendous book on leadership.
What is a favorite memory from high school?
Meeting Becky Swisher. She ran track at Lexington Catholic and I ran at Tates Creek. Although we didn’t know each other, Becky noticed me at track meets. When my picture happened to be in the newspaper, she clipped it out and sent me a letter asking me to autograph it. We’ve now been married 31 years.
What is a perfect summer evening after work?
Doing yard work and then relaxing on our back patio at sunset.
What do you consider your top accomplishment so far?
Helping raise three capable and accomplished daughters, Krista Citron, Jenny Sagan and Katharine Sagan.
What’s your favorite hobby?
Running. I’m busy at work and don’t get to run as regularly as I would like, but I enjoy it when I can.
What’s the most memorable gift you ever received for your birthday?
A surprise party for my 39th birthday. I had been in a serious car accident a few months before and friends and family came from all over to help celebrate my recovery. I was truly surprised—I had no idea what was planned, although in retrospect there were plenty of clues I should have noticed.
