brewhouse
A new "brewhouse" concept is planned for the space at the former Buddy's location.
The past year and 2012 promise to be two of the most exciting restaurant and bar development years in the history of Lexington. That trend continues with the new plans for the old Buddy’s location in Chevy Chase. Entrepreneur Bob Douglas has ambitious plans for this spot that include other interconnected ventures. Douglas has a science and medical background but has always had a passion for the bar business and has decided to act on his dreams.
The plan for the old Buddy’s location is to convert it to a “brewhouse” with locally brewed beer and other beer offerings plus a menu of “gourmet pub food,” which may include artisan pizzas. The name of the restaurant has not been finalized.
This project is itself an ambitious undertaking, but it is only one piece of a larger concept. Douglas also has plans in the works to build a brewery in Woodford Country with brewing equipment being shipped from Hamburg, Germany. He has a location secured that will not only include the brewery but also a tap room and a BBQ menu.
The brewery will supply beer to the new brewhouse and TBAR 500 –– a restaurant and bar which Douglas recently opened with managing partner TJ Gordon at the corner of Euclid and Woodland avenues (more at www.tbar500.com) –– as well as to another location under development in the Spears area of Tates Creek Road in route to the Valley View Ferry.
This development plan continues two themes being played out in the Bluegrass region. One is the continued development of the restaurant and bar sector in Lexington with new and interesting concepts opening up at an unprecedented pace. The other is the development of interesting food and drink venues in more rural or less urban areas.
We'll have more developments to report in the near future.
