Lexington, KY - Last year Toyota awarded 11 Kentucky non-profits free cars through its Facebook-based voting campaign, 100 Cars for Good. Starting on Thursday with Kentucky Educational Television (KET), 19 Kentucky non-profits have a chance.

In its second year, the 100 Cars for Good program pits five non-profits against each other on www.facebook.com/toyota where each gets a chance to make a pitch for why its organization deserves one of six different Toyota vehicles: the Camry Hybrid, Highlander, Prius v, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-sized pickup truck.
For the first incarnation of the program, around 2,300 non-profits from around the nation applied, each stating which of the cars they wanted and why. From there the pool was narrowed to 500, with five facing-off in open voting each day on Facebook. The four that didn’t win each received $1,000, and are allowed to reapply for 2012. This year follows the same format, but more than 4,000 non-profits applied during a two week window in March.
This year’s set of voting kicked off Monday and runs through August 21. Each day’s slate is currently online via the Facebook page, and to ensure users don’t forget to vote for their favorites on their day up, the program allows reminders to be set.
