Lexington, KY - Six Kentucky lawyers, members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), have returned from Washington, D.C. after visiting Congressional offices to make the case for an overhaul of the nation's immigration system.
"America's immigration system is dysfunctional and broken so I made the case to the only group of people in the nation responsible for making the change we need: the United States Congress,” said Glen M. Krebs a Lexington attorney of the firm Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs who participated in the AILA calls on members of Congress. “I was thrilled to take part in this unique opportunity to join with colleagues, clients, coalition partners, and other AILA members, and to advocate for a real solution," he said in a release provided to Business Lexington.
"On April 11, we visited the staff at the offices of Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator Rand Paul, and Congressmen Hal Rogers and Ed Whitfield. We were able to meet face to face with Andy Barr from our Sixth Congressional District. In each meeting we laid out the facts regarding immigrants and our community and the desperate need our nation has to find a workable solution to the problems faced by immigrants, businesses, employers, and state and local governments," said Mr. Krebs, who will begin a series on immigration reform in the May 10 edition of Business Lexington.
Krebs noted that the atmosphere in D.C. around immigration reform “was the most hopeful and positive I have felt in years, and I believe a bill will be enacted," he said. "Congress must focus on a reform package that includes a roadmap to lawful permanent status for the millions of undocumented immigrants currently living and working in the U.S., reforms to the legal immigration system in a way that will help businesses to grow, families to reunite and bring fairness to immigration enforcement. I feel that 2013 is the year we could actually see immigration reform done right.”
