Lexington, KY - The Fayette Alliance is launching its inaugural community awards program in celebration of initiatives that help the organization achieve its mission of sustainably “growing our city, and promoting our farms.”
Awards will be given for the three pillars of Fayette Alliance’s mission: agriculture excellence, innovative development and environmental excellence.
In addition a People’s Choice Awards will be selected from award recipients through online voting and announced at the Fayette Alliance Awards event on November 21st from 6-8 p.m. at Blue Stallion Brewing. The event is free and open to the public. With hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
Winners of individual awards and those up for people’s choice voting are:
Agricultural Excellence Awards
Local Food Award: Good Foods Co-op; the Lexington Farmer’s Market; Marksbury Farms.
Equine Industry Award: Fasig Tipton; Keeneland; the Kentucky Horse Park.
Fayette County Leader in Agriculture: Alltech; Bluegrass Livestock Markets; UK College of Agriculture.
Innovative Development Awards
Small-Scale Development Award: Atomic Café; the Kentucky Theatre.
Large-Scale Development Award: Chevy Chase Neighborhood; Rupp Arena & the Lexington Convention Center; the UK Medical Center.
Leader in Fayette County Development Award: Purchase of Development Rights Program; Urban Services Boundary.
Public Affordable Housing Project Award (group recipient): Ballard & Griffith Tower; the Russell School Apartments.
Private Affordable Housing Project Award (group recipient): Central Christian Church Apartments, Christ Church Apartments, Parkside Apartments, and the Douglass School Apartments.
Environmental Excellence Awards
Water Quality Award: Emma Tibbs; Friends of Wolf Run; Reforest the Bluegrass.
Greenspace Excellence Award: McConnell Springs; Raven Run; Woodland Park.
Fayette County Leader in Environmental Sustainability Award: Margaret Graves; Mary Wharton & the Floracliff Nature Sanctuary.
The Fayette Alliance is giving two visionary awards to Henry Clay and Wendell Berry, for their “lasting positive impact on Fayette County through their visionary leadership,” according to a release from the organization.
These will become annual awards, though Fayette Alliance Executive Director Knox van Nagell said future awards will likely rotate between the three categories, featuring one each year rather than handing out the whole slate yearly.
