Lexington, KY - Shorty’s, The Urban Market, is coming back to downtown Lexington.
The neighborhood grocery, which closed at the end of September, has been purchased by Bob Estes, the owner of Parlay Social, who plans to re-open the shop before the end of the year.
“I think Shorty’s was an integral part of continuing the growth downtown,” Estes said. “It broke my heart to see it close, and I want to be a part of bringing it back.”
Estes said he plans to reopen the grocery, located on West Short Street, essentially the same as it was prior to its closing. Changes to the adjacent wine shop, Shorty’s Cellar 157, are still in development and will be announced at a later date.
Estes, who also lives downtown, projects that the grocery will be ready for business by the Christmas holiday.
“It would be a nice Christmas present for us to have it back open,” he said.
