Rasheedah El–Amin
Lexington, KY – Rasheedah El-Amin who has served as acting director of the Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center since last January has been promoted to executive director by the Lyric’s Board of Directors announced.
El-Amin initially joined the Lyric staff in September 2011 as the Cultural Arts Coordinator.
“It is a tremendous privilege to be a part of the redevelopment of such a historic landmark”, El-Amin said in a release announcing her appointment. “I am thankful for this opportunity & look forward to guiding the Lyric’s continued growth.”
A Lexington native, El-Amin holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kentucky and had previously served as the Headley–Whitney Museum’s membership and administrative services coordinator.
The promotion of Ms. El-Amin as executive director “culminates a year of positive growth for the Lyric Theatre. Today’s Lyric is more financially stable, has greater broad-based utilization and a healthier connectivity with the community,” the release states.
“As our Acting Director, Rasheedah has done a wonderful job of taking us to new heights”, said Abdul Muhammad, Lyric Theatre Board Chairman.
In the role of executive director, El-Amin is charged with the day-to-day operation of the 540- seat theatre, the adjoining Cultural Arts Center, the DeWeese Street Community Room, an art gallery and museum space. A staff of two full-time and one part-time employee will report to El-Amin. She will also be responsible for the cultivation of a local volunteer base and community partnerships.
