Lexington, KY - Mayor Jim Gray's office announced late Friday that it will show off the new designs for Rupp Arena early Monday afternoon.
A press conference with the mayor and Gov. Steve Beshear - who proposed allocating $65 million toward the project in his January budget - will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Lexington Center adjacent to the storied basketball arena.
Business Lexington will be at the event which will show the plans for the long talked about project that has proposed to raze the existing convention center after a new, larger space could be built just down the road. This plan would "free Rupp," as Gray has stated allowing the arena to stand on its own and to remove what Gray has likened to a bookend on the west side of downtown as the current configuration of Rupp and the Lexington Center cutoff the main part of downtown from burgeoning areas behind the facility.
