Lexington, KY - Fayette County PVA David O’Neill announced the retirement of Nelson Keesey, 82, who has served as a commercial assessor at the Property Valuation Administrator’s office since 1986.
“He has been the embodiment of fair, consistent and reliable representation to the commercial property community for more than a generation,” O’Neill wrote in an email about Keesey. “Our processes for assessing commercial property will continue for many years on the sound foundation built by Nelson and the three PVAs under which he has served.”
O’Neill said Keesey “has never shied away from progress and technology.” He was one of the very first in the office to embrace aerial photography and to adopt using software for construction cost assessing.
A native of Ashland, Ky., Keesey previously worked as a real estate appraiser and assessor in Boyd County, in addition to a long career with Ashland Oil, from which he retired in 1985.
A retirement party will be held this week in Keesey’s honor at Jax on the corner of Limestone and Short. The party will be Thursday, Aug. 21, from 4:30 to 6:30.
The retirement of trained appraisers like Keesey is becoming an issue in the Commonwealth of Kentucky as the average age of these pivotal real estate professionals is between 55 and 60 years old. For more on the issue, look for the September edition of Business Lexington available later this week.
