Blue Grass Airport officials said Wednesday more than 1.2 million passengers used the airfield in 2014, a record for the Lexington facility.
Officials said the total was a 9.5 percent increase over 2013’s tally and the first record-setting figure since 2004.
“This is certainly great news for our community and we definitely want to thank all of our airline partners—American/US Airways, Delta, United and Allegiant,” Eric Frankl, executive director at Blue Grass Airport, said in a statement.
Airport officials attributed the record number of passengers last year to several factors, including more flights, more non-stop flights, and connections to key business and leisure destinations such as Philadelphia, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and several Florida locales.
The passenger tally is calculated by combining reports from the airlines on all arriving and departing operations.
