Downtown Lexington’s newest player on the coffee shop scene is focused on artisanal producers, on-site roasting and the owners’ desire to help customers “rediscover coffee.”Daily Offerings Coffee Roastery, 529 W. Main St., is the work of recently relocated Lexingtonians Kristie and Lood Kotze.
“Our goal was to bring a new coffee experience to the area, allowing people to rediscover coffee,” said Lood Kotze, a native of South Africa who grew up near Capetown and studied viticulture and enology at the University of Stellenbosch.
The couple met and married nearly a decade ago when Lood was working at the Cass Winery in Paso Robles, California, and Kristie was living in Providence, Rhode Island. They say they caught the “coffee bug” during a trip to Lood’s homeland. They came upon an independent roastery while visiting a winery there.
After deciding to move to Kentucky last year to be closer to Kristie’s family, the couple decided it was time to open their own coffee shop.
The couple say they were attracted to Lexington because of its evolving food and beverage culture and reputation for being a great place to raise a family. Additionally, Lood said he hopes eventually to get back into the winemaking business.
But for now, their focus is on fresh coffee.
They have an on-site roaster and plan to off er seasonal varieties all year. They also offer “pour over” varieties, as well as a selection of teas. Baked goods are also available, including gluten-free options. They plan to expand the menu with panini-style sandwiches.
“It was important to me to create a café menu using only the quality of food that I would give to my children,” Kristie said.
