With 134 commuting trips on two wheels during the month of May, Marcus Rugger was named as the first-place winner of the 2015 Bike Lexington Commuter Challenge.
The annual competition, sponsored by Pedal Power, challenged both new and seasoned Fayette County cyclists to record how many bike commutes and miles they could log during Bike Month, from May 1 through May 28. The contest counted only those trips that would have typically been made by motor vehicle, such as running errands or heading to work, and purely recreational rides were not included.
The award for second place went to Jennifer Fights, with 105 bike trips recorded. Tim Wygal, who recorded 75 bike trips for the month, took third place and was also honored for the most miles logged, with 517 total miles ridden during May. The winning cyclists received Pedal Power gift cards in recognition of their efforts.
This year’s Commuter Challenge competition drew 22 participants, with nearly 600 total trips and more than 2,800 miles logged.
