Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen announces Belcan Corp. expansion, adding 100 jobs in Lexington.
Mayor Jim Gray and Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen joined Tuesday afternoon with executives of Cincinnati-based engineering firm Belcan Corp. and others to announce that the company is bringing 100 new jobs to the city and expanding its Lexington Vine Center operation.
“This is good news for Belcan, good news for Lexington and good news certainly for the entire commonwealth,” Leallen said.
Belcan provides engineering, project management, staffing and technical services for a variety of industries. The company boasts more than 6,000 employees serving more than 600 clients on a global scale.
Belcan Corp. was founded in 1958 in Montgomery, Ohio, and is celebrating 10 years at its Lexington location, with plan to lease an additional 15,000 square feet as part of this expansion, which the company pegs as a $1.2 million investment.
“Attracting this outstanding company to our city, and now helping them grow right here in our downtown, these are huge steps that tell the world Lexington is great place to do business,” Gray said.
Belcan CEO Lance Kwasniewski and Steve Houghtaling, its vice president of engineering operations, praised the elected leaders as well as the University of Kentucky.
Bob Quick, president and CEO of Commerce Lexington, pointed to the Bluegrass Business Development Partnership, which combines the efforts of local government, the business community and the university, as key to landing the expansion.
Belcan’s fortunes have grown with the booming aerospace industry in the state. It opened its Lexington office in 2005, primarily to service Sikorsky Aircraft, which remains a top client.
