Lexington-based Country Boy Brewing has announced plans for a major expansion.
Country Boy co-founder Daniel Harrison said the craft brewing company will build a 20,000-square-foot facility in Georgetown that will hosue a 50 barrel brewhouse.
“Being from Scott County and longtime residents of Georgetown, we always were hopeful that someday we could grow our business to include a facility there,” Harrison said. “It’s a homecoming for us.”
Harrison said Country Boy is expecting to produce 8,000 barrels of beer this year, up from 500 barrels during in 2012, its first year of operation. He said the new facility is needed to meet growing demand both in Kentucky as well as in areas of Indiana and West Virginia where its signature Cougar Bait is distributed.
Harrison pegged the Georgetown facility investment at more than $4 million and said the company eventually will add 15 to 20 more employees once the facility is fully operational.
He said the brewery and tap room on Chair Avenue in Lexington will remain, with the brewing operations there dedicated to creating more experimental beers.
