Edwin Green Lane III, a Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council member and founder of The Lane Report business magazine, died Sunday of cancer, according to a statement from the magazine.
The statement noted that Lane had been suffering from cancer for two years and that his diagnosis was not known outside close family members.
“The staff is saddened by the passing of an amazing man, but it is lessened by how we marvel at the legacy Ed Lane leaves,” Mark Green, editorial director of Lane Communications Group, said in the statement. “His energy, his intelligence, his enthusiasm, his optimism and concern for his family, community and the nation will be missed but will continue to influence us. He was a true leader. The man had enthusiasm for life.”
Lane served as council member in the 12 district. His biography on the council website notes Lane’s longtime work in commercial real estate as well as his service on multiple boards of business, arts and professional organizations.
“Not only was Ed highly successful in his own business, he was an outstanding public servant who brought his business experience and expertise to City Hall to fight for Lexington’s business men and women," Lexington Mayor Jim Gray said in a statement. "He also was a strong advocate for his district. Our city will miss his leadership and experience.”
Lane is survived by two daughters, Susan Brett Lane and Katherine Meredith Lane, both of whom were with Lane Sunday night when he died, the statement said.
