For professionals who want to learn more about business but aren’t ready to commit to an MBA program yet, UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics has announced two new evening certification programs for this school year.
The 10-week Certificate in Business Administration programs include Business Foundations, to be offered this fall, and Innovative Leadership, scheduled for the spring.
The fall session, which will run from Sept. 17 to Nov. 19, will include 10 three-hour classes, to be held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gatton building on UK’s campus. Class topics for the Business Foundations session will focus on organizational design and environment; individual behavior in organizations; human resources management; marketing; economics in the workplace; accounting measurement and reporting; lean supply chain management; business law; strategic management; and financial decision making. Each session will be led by UK faculty and will include opportunities for hands-on experience as well.
The spring program, Innovative Leadership, is scheduled for Thursday evenings from March 24 through May 26. Topics will include: making sense of economic data; power, conflict and negotiation in organizations; emotion and emotional intelligence; decision making; personal selling; integrated marketing communications; the service-focused business; risk management and organizational control; the strategic role of HR management and entrepreneurship.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire the basics of a business degree without the time commitment a degree requires," said Joe Labianca, a Gatton Endowed Chair in Management and director of the Don and Cathy Jacobs Executive Education Center and the Executive MBA Program, in a media release on the new certifications.
The cost for each series is $1,000, or $1,800 for individuals who register for both the fall and spring programs. Discounts are available for groups of three or more, and for UK faculty, staff and students. Those who attend 10 sessions will earn 27.5 course hours of continuing education credit and a certificate of completion.
