Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities jointly issued a request for information (RFI) aimed at contractors who specialize in solar generation design and construction, in an effort to explore possible new solar options for industrial and business customers.
The RFI, which will gather information about vendors’ services, representative costs and experience, has been issued to examine the possible development of individual solar facilities for interested customers that would be owned and operated by LG&E and KU. The facilities likely would range in size from 30 kilowatts to 5 megawatts, according to a media release from the utility companies.
:Providing regulated distributive generation for our customers will be a new venture for us, but we expect this to be responsive to our customers’ needs,” said John P. Malloy, vice president of customer services, in the release. “We have had a number of business and industrial customers approach us about building and operating a solar array specifically for their business, and we believe it is another opportunity for us to directly meet the energy needs of our customers.”
Any solar partnership will be determined through a formal bid process, and individual projects will be subject to approval by the Kentucky Public Service Commission. Businesses interested in participating in the RFI should contact LG&E and KU before December 18.
