The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation has hired Michael Delzotti as its new president and chief executive officer, beginning in early December.
The Foundation, which serves as the fundraising arm for the UK Markey Cancer Center, underwent a nationwide search for its new president and CEO over the summer. Delzotti previously worked at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he served as senior director of philanthropic resources. There his role focused on two successive $1.25 billion campaigns. He also directed a $60 million campaign focused on discovering novel drug therapies for Alzheimer’s disease. Prior to that, he held major leadership positions with Rice University, UCLA and the Special Olympics of Southern California.
“I am honored to have been chosen by the UK Markey Cancer Foundation Board to join them in their efforts,” Delzotti said in a release announcing his new appointment. “This Center has such a distinguished history of providing world-class care for the citizens of Kentucky and producing cutting-edge research for the entire field of cancer care.”
In his new role, Delzotti will also serve as the Foundation’s chief development officer, focusing on major gift development and corporate and foundation grants, as well as overseeing capital campaign initiatives and all other aspects of the Foundation.
