Windstream executives Bryan Brooks, left, and Barry Bishop on Wednesday announce the launch of Kinetic pay-TV service in Lexington.
Lexington residents have a new option and Time Warner Cable has new competition in the local pay-TV market starting today with the launch of Windstream’s Kinetic service.
"We're extremely excited to make Kinetic available to the Lexington community following our initial launch in Lincoln, [Nebraska,] last spring," Sarah Day, interim president of Consumer and Small Business at Windstream, said in a statement. "The response we’ve received from customers has been tremendous and we’re confident that Lexington residents will find it to be a superior entertainment experience to cable or satellite.”
Company officials said the service is available to more than 50,000 Lexington resident.
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council cleared the way for the new service in early October when it approved a 10-year franchise agreement. The move brings competition to a pay-TV market currently dominated by Time Warner Cable.
Windstream Kinetic offers high-definition channels, DVR recording capability and on-demand video. It also is offering reduced-rate packages when Kinetic is bundled with phone, Internet service or both.
Kinetic’s basic introductory rate is $39.99 per month, according to the company. Bundled rates range from about $60 per month for the most basic TV and Internet bundle, up to about $130 for the the top end TV, Internet and phone bundle. Time Warner Cable offers a wider range of pricing options, but the costs for similar services are generally in line with Windstream’s.
Windstream officials said the company had added 25 jobs locally for the launch. The company said that the service area covers Chevy Chase, downtown, Beaumont and a few other areas around town.
Coverage availability of Kinetic can be ascertained at windstream.com/kinetic, by calling 866-444-2841 or visiting Windstream’s retail store, 151 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.
