Blue Grass Airport and Allegiant airline announced Tuesday that the low-cost carrier will begin offering direct service to Washington, D.C. and Savannah, Georgia, beginning this summer.
“We are tremendously excited and grateful that Allegiant is adding more nonstop destinations for the citizens of Lexington and central Kentucky,” Eric Frankl, executive director of Blue Grass Airport, said in a statement.
Service to Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport is scheduled to begin June 2, while flights to Baltimore / Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport are slated to start June 3.
“We’re very excited to offer residents of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region their only ultra-low-cost, nonstop option to visit these historical and exciting destinations,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant senior vice president of planning. “We’re sure Lexington-area travelers will take advantage of this service to enjoy all D.C. and Savannah / Hilton Head have to offer.”
In launching the new service, Allegiant is offering promotional one-way tickets for as low as $39 to the new destinations. Those tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, Jan. 13. They will not include all flights, and some restrictions and fees will apply.
Allegiant also offers flights from Blue Grass Airport to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and several Florida locations, including Tampa Bay, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Fort Myers.
“The airport continues to focus on creating a business environment that is attractive for the airlines, and Allegiant continues to invest in our community by offering new markets,” Frankl said. “We hope travelers in our region will respond by supporting this new service and their local airport.”
