Spirits produced at the reborn operation at the historic Old Taylor Distillery in Millville will bear the name Castle & Key.
The company -- founded by partners Will Arvin and Wesley Murry along with master distiller Marianne Barnes -- plans to begin production this summer of bourbon, making the earliest release possible in 2020. Before that, Castle & Key expects to release a couple of spirits that require less aging: a native botanical recipe gin and a rye whiskey.
Arvin and Murry bought the distillery after decades of neglect.
“Under the rubble and overgrowth, there were 100 year old buildings that were still structurally sound and architecturally astounding, and while a number of people seemed to have passed on this hidden treasure, we knew it could be revived to make great spirits,” Arvin said in a statement.
Beyond rehabilitating the structures, the company brought in new stillworks made by Vendome Copper & Brass Works and expects to produce up to 12,000 barrels annually.
