The Downtown Lexington Corporation is seeking input from the public about ideas for a temporary public art installation: a sculpture to be carved from more than 20 tons of sand that will grace Triangle Park for about three weeks.
DLC President Renee Shepard said Woodford County artist Damon Farmer will create the public work of art, which is being sponsored by Bluegrass Sotheby’s International Realty and Hilliard Lyons.
Farmer works in many mediums but is well-known for his sand sculptures, which he has created in competitions around the world.
“In whatever medium he utilizes, a sense of wonder, whimsy, amusement, and story-telling are characteristic qualities of his creations,” Shepard said in a statement.

The DLC is seeking ideas for the sculpture. Residents can offer their thoughts for the project at: . Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on March 18.
Shepard said the LexArts Public Art Committee will select five ideas to present to Farmer. The artist will then choose among the five finalist for his sculpture’s subject. The sculpture will be created publicly, but dates and times are still to be determined.
