The Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCADV) will expand the reach of its financial empowerment and domestic violence services to Kentucky Community and Technical College students, thanks to a $45,000 grant from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.
The grant will support KCADV’s work with Bluegrass Community and Technical College as part of the partnership program with KCTCS, called “Your Money, Your Future.” The partnership, which was launched two years ago, serves students who are TANF recipients and are enrolled in the Ready-to-Work Program at one of Kentucky’s 16 community colleges.
According to KCADV deputy director Mary O’Doherty, almost 75 percent of the students participating in the program are also survivors of domestic violence.
With help from KCADV, the colleges provide financial education classes and individual financial coaching, and the most promising and motivated students are invited to open Individual Development Accounts (IDAs). Students who complete the program will have $5,000 to pay for college tuition and education expenses, according to a media release announcing the recent grant award.
