Buffalo Trace Distillery, which began giving tours of its Frankfort facilities in 1999, crossed a major milestone Wednesday as it passed 1 million visitors, officials announced.
The Sazerac Co.-owned distillery, a National Historic Landmark that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, says visits to the facility have increased by more than 20 percent this year and has doubled over the past five years.
On Wednesday before noon, officials calculated they were set to pass the 999,999 visitor mark, and held a celebration complete with balloon drop when a Lexington man along with two others entered the gift shop. The moment was broadcast live on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/buffalotracedistillery/videos/1223133587718628/).
Buffalo Trace produces a variety of spirits, including its namesake bourbon as well as Blanton’s, Elmer T. Lee and Stagg Jr.
