Kentucky farms and breweries are pairing up to create five limited-edition, Kentucky Proud-infused beers, developed through a partnership of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Guild of Brewers.
“This is a great example of Kentucky Proud producers working together to create unique value-added products,” Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles said in a release announcing the new products. “We are pleased to work with the Kentucky Guild of Brewers to advance Kentucky’s flourishing craft brewing industry while helping farmers find new markets for their products.”
A total of 10 breweries and five farmers have signed on to create the new beers, which are made to showcase the flavors of Kentucky agriculture, and ceremonial pours and tastings have been scheduled throughout the fall to introduce the new beer offerings. The brewery and farm pairings include:
- Lexington-based Ethereal Brewing and Against the Grain, based in Louisville, used Kentucky Proud peaches from Mulberry Orchards in Shelbyville. The Peach Sour Saison was released on October 10 with a ceremonial pouring and tasting at Against the Grain. A second tasting is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. at Ethereal Brewing.
- Louisville-based Monnik Beer Company and Paducah Brew Works will incorporate paw paw fruit from Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Release is scheduled for Nov. 2 at Monnik.
- Great Flood Brewing Company in Louisville and Ei8htball Brewing, based in Bellevue, will use pecans from Kight’s Pecan Orchard in McCracken County.
- Louisville-based Goodwood Brewing and White Squirrel Brewery in Bowling Green will use hemp oil from Kentucky Hemp Works in Christian County.
- Gordon Biersch and Apocalypse Brew Works, both based in Louisville, will use sorghum from Townsend Sorghum Mill in Montgomery County.
Some of the proceeds from the beers’ sales will benefit the nonprofit Kentucky Guild of Brewers. For the complete release event schedule, follow the Kentucky Guild of Brewers on Facebook at facebook.com/KYGBrewers.
