Through Dec. 17, Lexingtonians once again have the opportunity to pay off parking meter violations under Lexington Parking Authority’s annual “Food for Fines” program.
During that window, customers with parking meter citations can bring 10 cans of food to the LEXPARK office, located at 122 N. Broadway, to receive $15 payable toward the cost of any LEXPARK or Lexington Police parking violation. Customers with multiple meter citations may bring in 10 cans for each one, including those that are past due.
“During the previous two years we have collected over 16,200 cans of food, the equivalent of over 10,000 meals,” Parking Authority Executive Director Gary Means said in a statement.
Officials suggest offering canned vegetables 14 ounces or larger. All food donations will be given to God’s Pantry Food Bank.
“We at LEXPARK are very proud of this program and the response of our community,” said Chairman James Frazier. “More importantly, other parking authorities and city parking departments around the country are following our example and helping those in need during the holiday season.”
