Sal’s Chophouse and Meats BBQ MKT will close after service Sunday as part of a reorganization by Lexington-based Bluegrass Hospitality Group at its Lansdowne Shoppes location on Tates Creek that also will see its Malone’s Banquets expand.
“We are truly grateful to the patrons, employees and supporters of Sal’s over its 13-year run,” BHG co-owner Bruce Drake said in a statement. “We plan to expand services for brunch at our OBC Kitchen location in the Lansdowne Shoppes to accommodate historic brunch diners at Sal’s.”
While Sal’s was a steakhouse mainstay, BHG opened Meats BBQ MKT in October 2015, aiming for the growing barbecue market.
With those spaces clearing out, Malone’s Banquets stands to gain space, growing from 8,000 to 15,000 square feet. BHG says it will have 12 rooms, up from 9, and total dining capacity of 500.
“We believe there is a terrific market opportunity for the Malone’s Banquets brand, where we will be able to accommodate more and larger groups and to offer a level of quality in our menu, facilities and service that is superior to alternatives in the Lexington area,” said BHG partner John McNamara. The expanded space is expected to be ready in late November.
