"Many of you have enjoyed this little hole-in-the-wall from the days it was known as Linda's on Lime and have found, like myself, that this is a great place for a breakfast business meeting. I know my column has been anchored on the concept of offering up locations around town that afford you a chance to do business over lunch, so I just strayed a bit by moving up the clock.
Beth Hanna took possession of Linda's earlier this century, retaining one of Linda's treasures, her very own freshly baked homemade white, wheat and cinnamon-raisin bread, which Linda delivers to Beth from Carlisle. This alone is reason enough to start the day with a breakfast meeting at Hanna's on Lime. The other is her fantastic breakfast fare — excellent in taste and price, both helping to overcome the funky ambience.
The fact that it is located just off the main axis of our legal, financial, educational and governmental power centers brings gatherings of all stripes, from two to six persons, scattered around the restaurant. The breakfast menu is available from 7 to 11 a.m., with the opportunity to have a meeting there anytime through that four-hour block. Usually, you will not have to keep your voice down, as the gatherings are throughout the morning, so seldom is it full until the faithful lunch crowd arrives. There isn't a private dining room, but I imagine Hanna would cater breakfast to your office, as she does so for many in the area over lunch. Hanna is a hands-on proprietor, which accrues to our benefit.
Three breakfast specials have names: Running Start, Quick Start and Great Start. Running Start is a fried egg and bacon sandwich for $3.50. Quick Start is $3.95 and includes two eggs prepared as you like, bacon or sausage and toast. The Great Start at $5.95 has two eggs, grits or hash browns, bacon, ham or sausage, and toast or biscuits. The price for an omelet, French toast or country ham and biscuits is $4.95. Perhaps the sports analogy of the specials goes back to the days when Beth Hanna was a member of UK's Lady Cats.
I am hooked on the Great Start with the homemade wheat toast and hand-shredded hash browns. My guest truly enjoyed a variation on the French toast by having it prepared with the cinnamon-raisin bread. Is Hanna's the best breakfast in town? You bet it is! In fact, since lunch is served from 11 until closing at 3 p.m., you might fit a small business meeting in over lunch, too.
