Lexington Pride Festival
11 a.m. - 11 p.m., June 25
Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza
www.lexpridefest.org
Presented in part by the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization, a non-profit group that has been working to improve the quality of life for Lexington's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) community since the late '70s, the festival's purpose is multi-faceted -
in addition to creating visibility and raising awareness for Lexington's GLBT population, the event is a celebration for that community and its supporters as well. The day-long event is free and family-friendly and open to all the public, regardless of their lifestyle orientation.
Entertainment throughout the day includes a "Lexington's Got Talent" competition, a poetry reading, a proclamation by Mayor Jim Gray, drag shows, and headlining musical acts from national performers, such as Amber and DJ D-Stu. Visit the organization's website for a complete schedule of events throughout the day.
This is the festival's fourth year, and the second time it will be held in downtown's courthouse plaza. The 2011 festival theme is "Raising Pride."
