Going Green for Fashion
Local fashion designer and activist Soreyda Begley will be exhibiting her work in the finals for "Designed for a Purpose - Going Green for Fashion," a competitive fashion show where all proceeds will benefit Dress for Success Atlanta, Inc., an international not-for-profit organization with the mission to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and a network of support to help them thrive in work and in life.
Begley will compete against five other designers who were challenged to create a mini collection that includes: a plus-size business suit, sportswear, two originals and a recycled garment. The event is Aug. 17 in Atlanta.
New Fund for No-Kill Animal Shelter
When a recent fire destroyed Remy Simpson's business and warehouse facility, Star Light and Magic, the destruction also took the lives of his beloved pets. The event inspired Simpson to create a fund for the creation of a new no-kill animal shelter in Central Kentucky.
Simpson has long been an advocate for animals and has rescued many starving and abused cats and dogs as well as other animals. According to his company's Web site, which presents a sampling of animals Simpson cared for, approximately 200 animals have been fed, cared for and sheltered over the years. The Star Light and Magic Web site, at www.starlight.com/charity.html, includes a list of helpful suggestions for those who would like to help homeless animals and has information on how to donate to the Remy Simpson Fund.
Regional Resiliency

Additionally, sales closed have increased over the past six months while average days on market are trending downward.
