Lexington, KY - September is finally here and our countdown for the Alltech FEI World Games is nearly finished. Please visit the website www.lexingtonky.gov/spotlightlexington to find out more about the special attractions in Downtown Lexington and visit www.alltechfeigames.com to find out how to purchase tickets to the events at the Kentucky Horse Park. I hope everyone will participate in these very special activities and help welcome the thousands of people who will be visiting our city during the games.
Please don't miss "Vintage Kentucky: A Toast to Henry Clay" on Sept. 4 at Ashland Estate (120 Sycamore Ln.). We are very proud to partner with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Grape and Wine Council. This will be KGWC's "signature" wine festival to help promote the Kentucky Proud wine industry. This event will be held in conjunction with the annual jazz concert at Ashland, featuring the DiMartino-Osland Jazz Orchestra, which begins at 5 p.m. Wine tasting will begin at 1 p.m. and tickets will include a beautifully etched Vintage Kentucky wine glass. Participating wineries will include Acres of Land, Chateau Du Vieux Corbeau, Chrisman Mill, Cedar Creek, Equus Run, Harkness Edwards, Horseshoe Bend, Jean Farris, Lovers Leap, Stone Brook and Wildside. In addition, a select group of food vendors, such as DaRae & Friends Catering, Chrisman Mill pasta bar and Wines on Vine, will offer wonderful items to complement the great wines.
You're welcome to bring your own picnic basket, but we hope you'll find the food and wine vendors on site to be a nice addition to the evening. We will have satellite parking at the Transit Center with free shuttles to the wine fest. If you park on the public streets, please be very considerate of the homeowners in the area and watch carefully for pedestrians.
On Sept. 2, Palmer Engineering and M2D Landscape Architects hosted the second and final public meeting to gather input on the Chevy Chase (High/Tates Creek/Fontaine/Euclid) project at Park United Methodist Church. The final feasibility study for the project will be submitted in September for a Transportation Enhancement Grant. Our thanks go to Buddy's Restaurant, Faith Lutheran Church and to Park United Methodist Church for sharing their meeting facilities with our neighborhoods.
Our congratulations go to Vivian Weil and Phyllis Jenness - two of our 5th District residents - for being recognized by the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation as "Senior Stars." They will each receive a Dr. William R. Markesbery Senior Star Award at the foundation's annual dinner on Sept. 7. For more information please visit www.mc.uky.edu/coa.
Once again, let me take this opportunity to urge you to be considerate of others. The most frequent concern we receive from constituents is related to the use of our automobiles. Please be mindful of speed limits in our neighborhoods and adjust your speed appropriately. When using street parking, please try to be considerate of homeowners in the area and avoid blocking driveways. This also applies when dropping off and picking up children at the area schools. Also, remember that parking in the wrong direction, on a yellow curb or blocking a hydrant is against the law and you may be ticketed. Let's all continue working together to make Lexington the best it can be.
Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns. Our weekly electronic newsletter is also available with more current information, if you'd like to receive it. If you have a comment regarding the new Keeneland venue for Picnic with the Pops, let us know. We love hearing from you.
